Sister Luz Ofelia Cazorla Merchán was elected as Province Leader of the Province of Ecuador on 26 April 2017. Her term of office will begin on 18 June 2017. The Province Chapter was held in Quito, Ecuador, from 22 to 29 April 2017.

Luz Ofelia was born in Alausí, Chimborazo Province, Ecuador, on 15 November 1960 and entered the Congregation in Quito, Ecuador. She made her perpetual profession on 20 October 1992 in Quito. Luz Ofelia holds a degree in Theology of Consecrated Life and has studied courses in Auditing at the Central University of Ecuador, in Educational Psychology at the Salesian Polytechnic University, in Life Forces in Canada and in Administration for Mission in Rome.

She has had apostolic experiences in vocational youth ministry, in protecting children and young girls, with women in situations of poverty and vulnerability, in school and prison ministries, and as director of initial formation, catechesis and supervision for volunteers. In addition, she has been the director of the Integrated Childhood and Adolescence Centre "CENIT" and a member of the Women's Ministry Coordinating Team in the Archdiocese of Guayaquil.

Luz Ofelia has served the province as Local Leader, Councillor and Province Treasurer for 9 years, Leader of the Community of Elderly Sisters, and as Contact Person for the Latin American region for the Justice and Peace Commission.
