To celebrate the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and the foundation of the Congregation, March 25, 2017
Dear brothers,
Dear candidates in formation,
Dear friends and associates,
We celebrate this Saturday, March 25, the Annunciation of the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, we celebrate the incarnation of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who enters into the human condition through the Yes of the Mother of God. This is the day chosen by our Father John Eudes to found the Congregation that precisely carries the Names of Jesus and Mary. This happened 374 years ago ... but, as the mystery of the incarnation is a present reality I have the intimate conviction that the foundation of the Congregation is a present reality. It is not a fact of the past; it is the actual work that John Eudes pursues from where he is, living in the glory of God. Saint John Eudes is not a figure of the past: in him we find our deep inspiration to embody our mission today in fidelity to what he has transmitted to us and today to unite in one body together. Thus Christ is formed in us and we generate him in the grace of the Holy Spirit to bring joy to the world.
We want to manifest the proud and happy face of what we are as Eudists, with the great richness of our differences between Provinces and between generations, we want to incarnate with joy what is to be Eudist as incorporated and as associate, as man and as woman, in our diverse cultures and our various social situations, by welcoming the other's share as the revelation of my own identity.
Let us ask St. John Eudes for the grace of a profound renewal of our relations, in the first place between us, the nearest or the most distant, so that charity becomes even more the inner principle which animates the life and mission of the Eudists through the world. Charity is the treasure we want to share. We do not forget that in his Testament St. John Eudes established us heirs to the Heart of Jesus and Mary, he gave it to us as the life that gushes forth and animates the body we form together and the mission we perform. May St. John Eudes and the blessed of the Congregation re-found us in love! This is my prayer for each and every one.
Good feasts of the Annunciation and the foundation of the Congregation.
May the Holy Virgin bless us with her Son Jesus !
