Energized by the Spirit, the Province leadership teams of REAL continue to reflect on the call to leadership. This invites us to be signs of hope, to generate life, to work from inside with our limitations and fragilities and from there to go towards a new way of leadership. This calls us to be open to the Spirit who invites us to serve in spite of our differences. This calls forth our gifts to accompany the sisters in the process of circular and covenant leadership.
The topic: HOW TO BECOME A LEADERSHIP TEAM helped the group to reflect on the reality of the region in this ‘in between time’- a time of transformation, a time to look towards the future, a time to foster the richness of each person and to be aware that as leaders we are called to be open to the Spirit so as to respond to a world of rapid change. We are called to empower others.
The ritual of the washing of the feet meant a lot for us. The participants shared the deep longing of supporting one another in a convenant comunity. While performing the ritual we responded to the question: "The support I ask you as a member of the Leadership Team is .... The support I give you as a member of the Leadership Team is .... "
Another deep question was: HOW TO DEVELOP A CULTURE OF LEADERSHIP TODAY?
Today we have a new awareness of God's action in the Evolution of the Universe and how this action is leading us to a profound renewal of religious life. The holistic model challenges us to model leadership through the three principles of the universe: Differentiation, Interiority and Communion.
Sister Elaine Basinger gave an overview of how leadership has evolved in the Congregation. We affirmed that we have a very strong foundational story and that God is calling us from this reality. Without the past we would not be here and the new springs from the old. From this sharing we tried to get an overview of the reality of the Region and the possibilities for future change. Just as for the meeting of Mary and Elizabeth something new inside and outside happened so also for us an unseen future where God is present is brewing.
“LEADERS AS AGENTS OF CULTURAL CHANGE”
From the presentation of "The social/cultural world of Jesus," we viewed the historical, religious and cultural context of Jesus. The Palestinian people were under Roman rule, and society was characterized by a peasant society based on purity and patriarchy. There was a wide gap between the upper class and the poor. The Gospel is full of examples where Jesus challenges customs and practices. sHisHis words and actions caused scandal among his followers as He tried to create a new awareness of the presence of the Kingdom.
To celebrate community we gathered in Unit groups and shared the bread and wine of transformation.
Another call during this formation session was to BE A PROPHETIC AND MYSTIC PRESENCE IN OUR WORLD TODAY. As religious, the invitation is to commit to the Gospel, to live wisely and in solidarity with those on the margins of life.
To conclude the Unit teams developed a strategic plan to integrate their new learnings into their Unit plans calling forth the participation of all the sisters of the Unit. We have to free ourselves from fears and face challenges with courage, commitment and openness.
