Today we celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, a day in which we celebrate the empowerment, protection and participation of girls in all levels of society.
This year’s theme focuses on adolescent girls and the Sustainable Development Goals, which set a range of international targets, including gender equality, to be achieved by 2030. Adolescent girls are a particularly vulnerable demographic, they face social and economic barriers that hinder them from becoming the leaders they are often meant to be.
So many of our projects here at the Good Shepherd International Foundation work to put girls first and ensure they get a chance at a bright future. Our project in India provides shelter for girls who are prey for human traffickers, in Angola our school is providing young girls with an education to break the cycle of poverty and in Kenya our day-care center provide children with meals and early childhood education.
These are just a few of our projects that puts girls are first. To learn more about our projects in developing world click here.
