Nowadays, people want to hold on to hatreds and grudges, but why?
They are difficult to let go of, especially when it is rooted on a pain that is very hard to forget.
Even though it is festering us everyday but still we tend to hold and cling on it – not allowing ourselves to be freed by the said “punishment.” Come to think of it, who suffers a lot? Who endures the pain? Usually, it slowly eat us away especially in dealing with others and making our world too narrow and confounded to limited persons only.
But again, Jesus keeps on reminding us: to forgive not only seven times but seventy-seven times. It means no limits, no boundaries and no ifs and buts – just forgive! Our heavenly Father forgives us every time we approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation, why we cannot do exactly the same way – forgiving others from the heart.
Forgiveness is a two-way street, both parties are always involved. One party is the one asking forgiveness and the other is the one granting and accepting it. Usually, with the pride in us, we blame each other and no one accept the mistake, we are always on the defense side and always utter the words, “I didn’t do anything!” Pinpointing and blaming each other.
Indeed, it takes a lot of courage and strength to ask forgiveness as well as it takes courage and strength to accept it. In both parties, mercy should be embraced, should always be there, at their individual heart so that things will be settled and compromised.
The “Lord’s Prayer” puts a great emphasis on asking forgiveness and giving it. And sad to say, we pray it many times everyday and yet we cannot see the very meaning of the said prayer. We bubble it like an ordinary poem or rhyme we already memorize during our childhood days. And yet, we cannot get the very meaning, the very essence of it.
Although we have trouble with mercy and forgiveness today, the good news is God never does. Jesus is always with us, waiting with open arms, to welcome us back into the state of grace and back into the light. Remember, the child who was born in the manger, the one who brings us the true LIGHT, until now that light never extinguishes.

Our Father who art in heaven….forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespassed against us!
We humbly pray that we may transform our stony hearts to the Heart that inflames with light of mercy and forgiveness – the Sacred Heart of Jesus!
