Human being is a rational and relational being. He/she needs a society to live and perform his/her abilities. The human being has the tendency to rule on God’s creation. He/she forgets that others are also created by God and need to be respected. Today’s most needed and wanted thing in our society is “peace and mutual relationship.” Although the world has become a global village, still it lacks unity and relationship. The Trinity is an ideal example for those who are having difficulty in accepting their fellow brothers and sisters.
The Most Holy Trinity is a basic mystery of all mysteries in Christianity. The doctrine of the Trinity is encapsulated in Matthew 28:19 “baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” [1] The Universal Church is inviting us to celebrate this solemnity. It is a celebration of our profession of faith and mutual relationship with God. We become children of God, brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ and witnesses of the Holy Spirit. The Priest baptizes us in the name of perfect unity on heaven and in the earth.
“The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself.[2] There were many occasions when intellectuals tried to comprehend the Trinity by mere intellect but they failed. We have the famous example of St. Augustine who was enlightened by a miraculous child to live rather than understanding the Trinity. The Trinity is bigger than human intellect. It is beyond our understanding but can be lived.
We have received baptism in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Now we are children of God. By receiving baptism in the name of the Trinity, we have been invited to participate in the perfect unity. Our task and goal of baptism should be, to build relationship with the Most Holy Trinity. We are called to live and witness this perfect unity with our fellow brothers and sisters.
In a business street, a woman shopper noticed a little boy, barefoot and dressed in rags, pressing his nose against the glass of a show-case. She holds his little hand and took him into the shop. She took him to the wash room, removed his ragged clothes put on new clothes and shoes she bought for him. Back on the street, she told him to go home and have a joyful day.
The child suddenly asked her: “Are you God?”
“Oh, no,” replied the woman, smiling. “I’m only a child of God.”
“I knew you that you are related to Him,” said the boy, and went on his way![3]
Today the Trinity invites a vibrant Christian living. The unity and love of the Trinity goes hand in hand with developing a personal relationship with the Trinity. .
The Trinity wants to be involved in our daily life that means, communicating with God everyday like we do with our close friend or family members. As children of God, let us live and witness the Trinity through our life.
