Fr. Gérard’s Corner
In past years, our tradition here at St. John Eudes was to invite a speaker to lead a parish mission,
helping us prepare for Lent. This year instead of a one-time parish mission, there will be several
opportunities throughout the Lenten season for you to spend time in community fasting, reflection and prayer.
Our speaker’s series began with Jack Jezreel who set the tone, reminding us that Lent is a season in which we are asked to consider more deeply what we can do for those who are most needy. The next speaker, Fr. Randy Roche from Loyola Marymount University, will guide us in learning to practice one component of Ignatian spirituality – gratitude -as he joins us on March 30. More information about this is contained in the bulletin.
Each Friday evening, you are invited to end your hectic week and day of fasting, joining as a community to share a meal of soup and a time of reflection, followed by a symbolic experience of pilgrimage through the Stations of the Cross. Six different parish ministries are leading this effort and each week the Stations of the Cross will be presented through the vision of that ministry. Soup will be served at 6:00 p.m. followed by Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. We began last
week with the Compassion ministry which emphasized Lent as a time to hear the cry of the poor. The schedule for the remaining weeks is as follows:
March 14 – Spanish Ministry
March 21 – RCIA
March 28 – Filipino Ministry
April 4 – Parish School
April 11 – Youth Ministry/Living Stations
Finally, a parish family retreat entitled “Walk with Jesus” is planned for March 23 beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Grill Hall.
Together, these events constitute our Lenten mission so come with gratitude and joy!
Father Gérard, CJM
