Dear Brothers and Sisters, incorporated, seminarians, associates and friends, From the beginning of his pontificate, Pope Francis invites us to pray with and for the poor. On this day we celebrate the birth of St. John Eudes, let us remember that during all of his life the founder of the CJM cared for his neighbor and defended the defenseless

"Charity" We can listen to what St. John Eudes said in the text of the lectionary No. 12, (St. John Eudes, the Kingdom of Jesus, Part 2, XXXV; O.C. 1, 257-260)

“Loving one another as Jesus Christ loves us." “When the Son of God says, in his Holy Gospel, that the first and greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart and soul and all your strength, it is with good reason that he goes on to declare that the second commandment, namely: to love one's neighbor as oneself, is like unto the first. Love of God and love of neighbor cannot be separated since they are not two loves but one and the same. We are bound to love our neighbor with the same heart and love with which we love God because our neighbor should be loved, not in and for himself, but in and for God; better still, it is God himself that we should love in our neighbor.

This is the way Jesus loves us: in and for his Father, rather he loves his Father in us and wants us to love one another as he loves us. This is my commandment, Jesus said, love one another as I have loved you (John 15, 12).

This is what constitutes Christian charity: loving one another as Jesus loves us. So great indeed is his love for us that he gives us his whole life, body and soul, his time and his eternity, his divinity and his humanity, all that he is, all that he has and all that is in his power. He is all charity and love for us.

Consider, therefore, your neighbor as he exists in God and God in him. Look upon him as a being come forth from God's heart and goodness, one participating in God, created to return to God, to one day be ensconced in the bosom of God to glorify him eternally; a being in whom God will be eternally glorified, either out of mercy or out of justice.

Consider your neighbor as the object of God's love, no matter what his condition may be, for God loves everything he created and hates nothing he has made. The only thing he abhors is sin and sin was not made by him. Your neighbor is an individual sprung from the same principle as you, a child of the same Father, created for the same end, belonging to the same Lord, redeemed at the same price, namely: the precious blood of Jesus Christ. He is a member of the same Head, Christ, and of the same body, the Church, nourished with the same food, the precious body and blood of Jesus. You should, therefore, be of one mind, one soul and one heart with your neighbor.

Look upon him also as the temple of the living God, bearing in himself the image of the Blessed Trinity and the likeness of Jesus. He is part of Jesus Christ, bone of his bones, flesh of his flesh, one for whom Christ labored and suffered so much, spent so much of his precious time, shed his blood and gave his very life.

Finally, consider him as one recommended to you by Jesus as his equal, stating that whatever you do for the

least of his brothers, he will consider done for himself (Mat 25, 40). If we only weighed the importance of these truths, what charity, what respect we would have for one another! How we would be afraid to jeopardize unity and Christian charity in thought, word and deed! What wouldn't we do or suffer for one another! How charitably and patiently we would bear with the faults of others and excuse them! With what gentleness, modesty and restraint we would converse with each other! How attentive we would be to be pleasant with everybody and please our neighbor so as to do him good by building up his spirit (Rom 15, 2).

Prayer:

Worship God for the deep love he has for all his creatures and every one of us in particular.
Let us bless Him and love Him.
Let us give thanks for the many blessings of his love.
Let us ask forgiveness for our ingratitude to Him and our lack of love for our neighbor.
Let us give ourselves to God's love to overcome our resistance and to reign perfectly in us.

Scriptures Reading : Jn. 15, 4-5

Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit , because without me you can do nothing.

Silence

Prayer of Intercession:

O God who has chosen to St. John Eudes to be the father, the doctor and the apostle of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary, may his example, help us be neighbors to our isolated or sick neighbors and help us go to all the people who know little and who need our help.

Our Father

HYMN OF PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING TO THE HEART OF JESUS AND MARY FOR COUNTLESS GIFTS RECIEVED

My soul glorifies the admirable Heart of Jesus and Mary and my spirit rejoices in this great Heart which is

mine! Yes, Jesus and Mary gave me their Heart so all that I have may be fulfilled by nothing but their love.

R\. Infinite praises for such an indescribable love!
This good Heart has done wondrous things for me. R\.
It held me since I was in my mother’s womb. R\.
The abyss of my misery called out to the abyss of its mercy. R\.
In all gentleness, it always surrounded me with its sweetest blessings. R\.
I was sheltered in the shadow of its hand, cared for as the apple of its eye. R\.
I was chosen to become its priest; I was raised to sit with the princes of his people; R\.
It uttered its words through my mouth, and made my speech like a two-edged sword. R\.
It made me die, it made me live, it was with me along all the paths of my life.R\.
It has been the enemy of my enemies, and it delivered me from all my trials. R\.
O most loving Heart, source of all goodness, you have given me gifts without measure!
To you be all praise, all love, all glory; may every mouth sing your praise, and every heart cherish you!

You are glorious in your mercy, and in your love to work such marvels for the children of men.
You are blessed in all your virtues, praiseworthy and exalted above all, forever.
May the Father of Mercies be mindful of all your sacrifices, and accomplish all your desires!

O Heart of Jesus, in an outpouring of love and suffering, you were broken for us on the Cross: on this cross, as a sacrifice on the altar, may our hearts burn in the fire of your love till the end of time!
O Heart of Mary, your heart too was pierced by the sword of sorrow, grant that our heart may be continually transfixed by the arrow of divine love!
O Heart of Jesus and Mary, furnace of love, may our hearts be engulfed by you forever; to die within your flames, and to become, with Jesus and Mary, one heart, one “fiat” for eternity.
Glory to the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit…
May Jesus and Mary live and reign in my heart, and in all creation.
