A Celebration of Love and Self-Giving

FEAST DAY OF ST. JOHN EUDES

Loving Heart – is an action word that neither changes nor banishes through the course of time rather finds its vibrance in the lives of people. It is an appealing hashtag of the millennials in social media (#PinusoanMoNaBa?), a controversial issue in the Philippine society (Saan ang Puso ng mga Pumapatay?), and the battle cry of the basketball team (#LabanPilipinas #Puso). Indeed, love comes alive and finds perfection in the hearts of the people.

In a profound sense, it is the reason why we have Saint John Eudes – our founder and father of the devotion to “the Heart of Jesus and Mary”. On the 19th of August 2017, the Eudists in the Philippines celebrated the 337th death anniversary of St. John Eudes. The celebration was animated by the Holy Eucharist, presided by Fr. Ronald Bagley, CJM, the local superior of the community and concelebrated by the Eudists priests (Fr. Robert Leus, CJM, Director of the STEF Seminarians and the Community Bursar; Fr. Rodrigue Azanmasso, CJM, Member of the Formation Team; Fr. Michael Dupo, CJM, Assistant Parish Priest, Our Lady of Light Parish, Cainta; and, Fr. Dennis Jones Garcia, CJM, the Vocation Director). The feast day celebration was also attended by the sisters of the Religious of the Good Shepherd (RGS), seminarians from the various congregations, benefactors, and friends.

For St. John Eudes, “Love is the rule of all the rules”. Love ensnared him to offer his entire self in service of God and the people – the Church. In his heart he found where Jesus and Mary dwells. It is the reason why he was so passionate and zealous in doing mission amidst of difficulties and human weakness. As we continue to live the life with Christ may the prayer of St. John Eudes would also be our prayer,

“Oh Divine Heart of Jesus and Mary,
may our hearts be One with you.”
Amen.
