The Religious of the Good Shepherd participated in the protest rally at the People Power Monument on November 30, Bonifacio Day.
It was a response to the Association of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines' call on members to pray for and join the rallies that started in different venues like the De La Salle Greenhills and Ateneo de Manila.
A Mass was held at the Divine Child Chapel of the De La Salle, where a student representative and Bro. Jose Mari Jimenez, FSC shared their reflections while Sr. Regina Kuizon, RGS, co chairperson of AMRSP, read the Full Statement of the association on the Burial of Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
After the Mass, the groups gathered at De La Salle marched towards the People Power Monument (Epifanio delos Santos Avenue) EDSA.
Another group led by the Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan assembled at the Ateneo de Manila University where a program was held before the group proceeded to PPM. Students and congregations in the nearby villages joined the march. The many groups of rallyists included the Task Force Detainees of the Philippines and I Defend.
The RGS came from the different communities including, Tagaytay, Baguio and NCR. Several RGS also proceeded to Bantayog ng mga Bayani in Quezon Avenue for the unveiling of the marker for the 19 new heroes, those students, laborers, church leaders and professionals who in their lifetime fought the Marcos dictatorship, among them Letty Jimenez Magsanoc, Bishop Julio Labayen, Sen Jovito Salonga and Behn Cervantes.
Five RGS including Sr. Christine Tan, whose birthday was Nov. 30, were among those people whose names were inscribed in 1999 and 2003 at the Bantayog for their contribution to help the victims of Martial Law. Sr. Christine was AMRSP co-chairperson from 1973-1976. Yesterday, the last group of RGS who stayed at the People Power Monument for the activities joined the thousands of youth, parents, religious, families who all wanted justice for those who were victims of Martial Law and for each one not to forget the atrocities of the Marcos regime.
As co-chairperson of AMRSP (2016-2019), Sr. Regina is grateful to all religious, mission partners and friends who participated in the activities by their prayers and by joining the march.
