A Way to Enter into the Mysteries of Jesus Christ

The significance of today's memorial lies in the fulfillment of God's redemption of humanity in Jesus Christ. Our Blessed Mother is the first among Christ's followers to enter into the realm of that promise. What we celebrate in the Memorial of the Our Lady of the Rosary is God's love that pushes on to fulfillment the same promise of redemption for and in all of God's creation as the present continues to unfold.

Entering that realm of redemption in the here and now means living the core message of the day's Gospel: "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself" (Lk 10:27), a message that the scholar of the law knew so well. It is a message that was affirmed by Jesus through the parable of the Good Samaritan, which brings to fore the value of each person and our relationship with one another. Our redeemed existence ought to be lived by the primacy of loving God, not in the dry and tepid vacuum of spiritualized God and human encounter. That simply does not exist in God's reign. To be in the Great Heart of God is to be in thick of human relationship, often forged in the crucible of life's challenges.

The age-old tradition of praying the rosary offers us a possibility to enter into the mysteries of God embracing humanity at the very core of our existence, progressing from conception, birth, growth, self-expression, passion, death and resurrection, all of which suffused with the dynamic presence of God. It leads us to the mystery of our own personal and communal circumstances as we become more and more aware of the Kingdom of God within and in our midst. We follow the lead of the one who was so blessed that her instinct enabled her to keep all things in her heart in the face of God's wonders manifested in human time and space.

Prayer

O Blessed Trinity, grant us awareness of our own blessedness that you wrought for us through the mysteries we meditate on in the Rosary by the intercession of our Blessed Mother, who is a sign for us of your fidelity to your promise. May we also be a sign of this divine graciousness to the world and to one another. Amen.
