Third Sunday of Advent: HOSPITALITY for Syrian refugees in Lebanon

Today marks the Third Sunday of Advent and we continue to open our hearts and prepare to welcome Jesus Christ into our lives.

As part of our Advent series this week we focus in on the word HOSPITALITY. We define HOSPITALITY as receiving a guest - friend or stranger - with goodwill. The word is about generosity, vulnerability and more specifically about people.

For years now, the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd in Lebanon have provided hundreds of Syrian refugees with HOSPITALITY, offering them basic life necessities - food, fuel and health care - and the support they need to survive.

The Syrian Civil War, now five-years-old, has forced some four million people to leave everything behind and seek sanctuary in neighboring countries. Lebanon alone has taken in more than 1.1 million Syrian refugees.

Our Sisters in the region have focused in on basics. They have provided refugees with medical care at the Saint Antoine Dispensary in East Beirut. They have also assisted children and given them access to the educational services they run at the Social and Community Centre of the Good Shepherd. Plus, they are great listeners and learn about the struggles and the needs of the refugee community.

Our Sisters have demonstrated what the word HOSPITALTY means and they are offering it with open arms and an open heart each day of the year. You can learn more about our work in Lebanon here and donate directly during this season of giving here.
