A new Bishop

After a year and a half without a bishop, the Diocese of Imus (Cavite) in the Philippines has a new bishop. He was appointed on April 8, 2013 and will be installed on June 5, 2013. He is:

Born: May 8, 1960
Ordained a priest: June 19, 1986
Ordained a bishop: January 26, 2005
Previous assignment: Bishop of Dioces of Boac
Boac is an island diocese of about 200,000 Catholics, about 30 diocesan priests, and about fewer than 20 parishes. It has no religious priests and about 25 religious women.

On the other hand, the Diocese of Imus, Cavite has over 3.5 million Catholics, over 100 diocesan priests, and more than 60 parishes (with new ones being created every year). It has almost 100 male religious, and almost 300 female religious. Cavite is the fastest growing province int he Philippines.

Bishop Evagelista has background as a seminary formator and a parish priest. He is a member of Commission on Clergy of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines.
