UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO
What is Steubenville San Diego?
Steubenville San Diego is a powerful and spiritually transforming weekend for Catholic teenagers. It is one of many Steubenville conferences around the country hosted by Franciscan University’s “Youth Outreach” office. The weekend is filled with dynamic speakers, great music, time for fun and fellowship, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Mass, and Adoration. Teens hear the Gospel shared in ways that are relevant; calling them to conversion and a living faith. Last year there were over 5,000 participants. We took about 50 from Ascension, and all had amazing experiences. We hope that your teen will join us this year! When is it?
July 25-27, 2014 (Friday afternoon – Sunday afternoon)
Who can go?
All high school teens (including those graduating 8th and 12th grade this spring).
(It’s a great way for next Fall’s freshmen to get introduced to our youth group community!)
Where is it & where do we stay?
The conference will be held at the University of San Diego. All participants stay in the dorms at the university. These are dorms not currently being used by USD students- only conference participants (youth groups and catholic schools) will be staying in them. There are separate girl and guy dorms, and the outside doors are locked and only open to youth group leaders with keys. Most of the dorms are apartments, with 6-8 teens and a chaperone in each apartment. Our group’s rooms are always next to each other.
Chaperones/Security?
All groups have 1 adult chaperone for every 8 teens. I myself will be one of our chaperones, and we will have 6 or so other responsible adults, depending on our group’s size (adults include those who regularly help out with our youth ministry). Each youth group stays together during the weekend… and teens must be with an adult at all times. Unchaperoned teens will not be wandering around the campus. There is 24-hour security everywhere, including the dorms. All conference participants receive a wristband for the weekend, and no person without a wristband is allowed into conference areas. Our group also has a strict policy to ensure that everyone follows the rules and remains safe; if any teen attempts to leave our group, we will call their parents and they will need to be picked up. This conference is very safe and well-supervised and we have never had a problem.
