Easter and a Mission

A celebration of Holy Week in a distinctly Eudist style.

We were in Lisieux on March 17th to follow the footsteps of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus and the Holy Face. The day began in the crypt of the basilica for the Sunday mass, presided by the vicar general of the diocese of Tours (who also brought a group on pilgrimage). Then, we were treated to the life story of Therese by the chaplain of the sanctuary, who conducted our visit to a museum dedicated to her on the grounds of the Carmel convent. After this tour, we visited the Buissonnets house, where she grew up. This was a beautiful opportunity for us to draw closer to this Norman saint and doctor of the Church.

The following week, Camilo Bernal, the superior general, gave us a session on the New Evangelization, using as a departure point the book on the Missions of St. John Eudes by Fr. Berthelot du Chesnay.
 The TSI also had the privilege to participate in the Palm Sunday pilgrimage to Mont Saint Michel with a few hundred students from the dioceses of the Greater West of France.

It was an experience of faith, which consisted in a long hike the day before, to cross the bay of Mont Saint Michel at low tide during the night. There was a real atmosphere of solidarity, fraternity, and collective enthusiasm. Following the example of our ancestors in the faith, who crossed the Red Sea to meet Yahweh on the mountain of the Lord, the people of God continue the long journey of expressing their faith.


The Chrism Mass is a huge Eucharistic celebration where all the priests and deacons of a diocese gather
around the bishop to renew their promises of ordination, as well as their fidelity to the Church. We assisted at this mass with Msgr. Jean-Claude Boulanger in the Cathedral of Bayeux on Holy Tuesday. The oil of catechumens, the oil of the sick and the holy Chrism were consecrated there.

To prepare for the solemnity of Easter, we received a retreat during the Pascal Triduum under the direction of Fr. Pierre Marchand.  
 The TSI was also an active part of the different Triduum celebrations in the parish community of Douvres-la-Delivrande.

Also during Holy Week, we had an experience of mission with the students of the Maîtrise Notre-Dame, a school here in town, where we shared our experiences of Christian life.

On Easter Sunday, we searched the garden of the sisters of Notre-Dame de Fidélité for Easter eggs.

Flash News: Blessed Maria Droste

Dear Sisters and Good Shepherd Friends,

As we near the Feast of Blessed Maria Droste on 8th June, it is my privilege to share with you the following update on the Process for Canonization of Blessed Maria Droste.

All the required written materials regarding the cure of Mrs. Jennie Battaglia, attributed to Blessed Maria, have been compiled and studied by medical specialists. Many of the witnesses (family and medical personnel) have had an initial interview. Therefore, Bishop William Murphy of the Rockville Centre Diocese, New York, (the place where the cure occurred) has convened a Tribunal which will begin on 15th June
2013.

The purpose of this Tribunal is to judge whether or not the cure is a miracle. Approximately 20 witnesses will be called to give testimony at the Tribunal hearing. If the outcome is determined by this panel, that the cure is a miracle, then the report will include a recommendation to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to
proceed to the next step. A second Tribunal session would then be held here in Rome for a final determination of the case and, God willing, to recommend the cause for canonization to the Holy Father for final affirmation.

Let us unite in prayer for the enlightenment needed at the Tribunal beginning on 15th June and pray with Blessed Maria Droste for all who participate with us by echoing her words: “Jesus, I beg you not only for peace, but also infinite love without limits.”

Flash News: Bienheureuse Maria Droste

Chères Soeurs et Chers Amis du Bon-Pasteur,

Alors que nous approchons de la date de la Fête de la Bienheureuse Maria Droste, le 8 juin, j’ai le plaisir de vous transmettre des nouvelles du Procès de Canonisation de la Bienheureuse Maria Droste.

Toute la documentation écrite requise au sujet de la guérison de Madame Jennie Battaglia attribuée à Maria Droste, a été compilée et examinée par des médecins spécialistes. De nombreux témoins (famille et personnel médical) ont été initialement entendus. Ainsi, Mgr. William Murphy, évêque du Diocèse de Rockville Centre à New York (lieu où la guérison s’est produite) a convoqué un tribunal qui commencera ses travaux le 15 juin 2013.

L’objectif de ce tribunal est de juger si oui ou non cette guérison est un miracle. Une vingtaine de témoins seront appelés à témoigner à l’audience du tribunal. Si en conclusion il est établi par ce jury qu’il s’agit d’une guérison miraculeuse, le rapport comportera notamment la recommandation à la Congrégation pour la Cause des Saints de passer à l’étape suivante. Une seconde session du tribunal se tiendrait alors ici à Rome pour se prononcer définitivement sur l’affaire et, avec la grâce de Dieu, pour recommander la cause de canonisation au Saint Père à qui revient l’ultime décision.

Unissons-nous en prière afin que toute la lumière nécessaire éclaire le tribunal qui débutera le 15 juin, et prions avec la Bienheureuse Maria Droste pour tous ceux et toutes celles qui participent avec nous, en reprenant ses propos : « Je te supplie Jésus, de m’accorder non seulement la paix mais aussi un amour infini, sans limites. »

Flash Noticias: Canonización de la Beata María Droste

Queridas Hermanas, amigas y amigos del Buen Pastor:

A medida que nos acercamos a la Fiesta de la Beata María Droste el 8 de Junio, tengo el agrado de compartir con ustedes las siguientes novedades sobre el Proceso de Canonización de la Beata María Droste.

Médicos especializados han recopilado y examinado toda la documentación escrita requerida acerca de la curación de la Sra. Jennie Battaglia, atribuida a la Beata María. Muchos testigos (familia y personal médico) han tenido una entrevista inicial.

Por lo tanto, el Obispo William Murphy de la Diócesis de Rockville Centre, Nueva York, (el lugar donde se produjo la curación) ha convocado un Tribunal que iniciará su labor el 15 de junio de 2013.

El objetivo del Tribunal es juzgar si la curación es un milagro. Aproximadamente 20 testigos serán llamados a dar testimonio durante la audiencia del Tribunal. Si la sentencia del jurado establece que la curación es un milagro, el infome incluirá una recomendación a la Congregación para las causas de los Santos para proceder con el siguiente paso.
Una segunda sesión del Tribunal se realizará en Roma para tomar una decisión definitiva sobre el caso y, si Dios quiere, para presentar la causa de canonización al Santo Padre para la confirmación final.

Unámonos en la oración para que el Tribunal que iniciará su labor el 15 de junio, reciba la luz necesaria: oremos con la Beata María Droste por todo los que participan con nosotras repitiendo sus palabras: "Jesús, te ruego no sólo la paz, sino también amor eterno, sin límites."

A new Bishop

After a year and a half without a bishop, the Diocese of Imus (Cavite) in the Philippines has a new bishop. He was appointed on April 8, 2013 and will be installed on June 5, 2013. He is:

Ordained a priest: June 19, 1986
Ordained a bishop: January 26, 2005
Previous assignment: Bishop of Dioces of Boac
Boac is an island diocese of about 200,000 Catholics, about 30 diocesan priests, and about fewer than 20 parishes. It has no religious priests and about 25 religious women.

On the other hand, the Diocese of Imus, Cavite has over 3.5 million Catholics, over 100 diocesan priests, and more than 60 parishes (with new ones being created every year). It has almost 100 male religious, and almost 300 female religious. Cavite is the fastest growing province int he Philippines.

Bishop Evagelista has background as a seminary formator and a parish priest. He is a member of Commission on Clergy of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines.
I have not met the new bishop yet and I do not have a phone number for him.

De Mérida, el P. Martín A. Solano, me ha informado del deceso del Hermano EVARISTO JEREZ, el 19 de mayo del presente año.  Nacido el 21 de Agosto de 1920 en San Andrés, Santander del Sur, Colombia, Ingresa al Noviciado el 23 de Julio del año 1939, en Valmaría, Usaquén, ese mismo año entra a la Probación.   En el año 1941, acepta venir a Venezuela a nuestro Juniorato de Kermaría, La Grita, Edo. Táchira.  Se incorpora a la Congregación de Jesús y María de los Padres Eudistas, el 7 de mayo de 1944.  Durante toda su vida, colabora en la formación de nuestros jóvenes en los Seminarios Menores.

•         1941: Profesor y Vigilante en el Juniorato eudista de Kermaría, La Grita, Edo. Táchira, Venezuela.
•         1944: Profesor, Vigilante y ecónomo en el Seminario San Buenaventura de Mérida, Edo. Mérida.
•         1960: Profesor y Subdirector en el Seminario Santa Rosa de Lima, Caracas.
•         1970: Profesor y Ecónomo en el Seminario San Buenaventura, Mérida.
•         1971: Profesor, Subdirector y Ecónomo en el Seminario Santa Rosa de Lima, Caracas.
•         1979: Profesor, Ecónomo y Subdirector (luego Director en 1997) en el Seminario Arquidiocesano San Buenaventura, Mérida.

Son 72 años dedicados a ser Formador – Evangelizador en la huellas de San Juan Eudes. Obispos, Sacerdotes, Seminaristas y hombres de bien han bebido de sus enseñanzas, quedando marcados, aprendiendo de su testimonio y entrega total.

El Hermano Evaristo Jerez, muere a la edad de 93 años.  Sus restos serán velados en la Capilla del Seminario Arquidiocesano San Buenaventura de Mérida, casa que amó con todo su corazón y se dedicó con gran amor, humildad, empeño y sencillez, dejándonos así un legado intachable digno de imitar: “formar pastores según el Corazón de Dios”. 

El 21 de mayo de 2013, a las 11:00 AM se celebrará la Eucaristía en la Iglesia Catedral la cual será presidida por su Excelencia Mons. Baltazar Enrique Porras Cardozo, Arzobispo de la Arquidiócesis de Mérida.  Luego de la Eucaristía, su cuerpo será sembrado por la eternidad en el Panteón de la Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Espejo, rogamos al Dueño de la Mies que esa semilla germine en numerosas vocaciones sacerdotales.  Sin dudas, nuestro hermano, como dice San Juan Eudes, “ha ido a tomar posesión del cielo prometido para adorar, alabar y amar continuamente y por toda la eternidad a la Santísima Trinidad”...   Lo encomendamos a la Misericordia del Señor y ofrecemos dos Eucaristías a su intención (Const. Nº 46.1).

Encuentro de Párrocos Eudistas de América Latina y el Caribe

Luego de 5 meses de preparación, de correos, mensajes y documentos llegamos cargados de ilusiones a

En un ambiente fraterno nos encontramos hermanos de lejos y cerca, unos que no veíamos hace mucho tiempo, otros que no conocíamos. Qué alegría juntarnos los miembros de la familia de párrocos Eudistas …” cómo es maravilloso estar con los hermanos…”

Un objetivo que la próxima Asamblea Provincial nos pide: presentar un Directorio de Parroquias tomando como base el Perfil de una parroquia animada por Eudistas elaborado en Chinauta en Octubre del 2010.

Este propósito lo hemos enmarcado en la coyuntura histórica de la Iglesia y de nuestra Congregación y nos hemos propuesto re-descubir la riqueza de nuestra espiritualidad Eudista y la identidad que ésta cobra hoy en la vida de cada una de las 23 parroquias que tenemos en América latina y el Caribe.Todos llegamos ilusionados y salimos cargados de expectativas y esperanzas: convertir nuestras parroquias en auténticos centros de pastoral donde la Palabra de Dios reine en el corazón de cada fiel, donde se celebre la presencia del Señor Resucitado, donde cada fiel se forme como discípulo comprometido del Reino, donde todos los fieles sean Misioneros de la Misericordia, identidad y sello característico de la Espiritualidad Eudista para poder proclamar con fuerza que nuestras parroquias son de verdad EVANGELIZADORAS – FORMADORAS.

Cartagena con el objetivo de compartir entre todos nuestras experiencias como “pastores según el corazón de Dios” para abrir nuevos caminos de servicio pastoral con audacia y valentía.
